: best. structure. ever. (sort of)
I won the UltimateBet $200 tournament last night for $37,000. I picked up a lot of chips with about 8 or 9 tables to go and was actually leading the field by about 2x (ie, I had 300k, the next person had 150k) until we got four-handed. When I win a lot of showdowns, it's quite bad for the other players.
A strange thing happened; when we broke to the final table, the blinds were 4k-8k with an 800 ante. Something got screwed up in the software and the blinds stopped escalating. So we played for about 60 minutes (4 limits) at these blind levels. I emailed support to tell them about it (being the huge stack, I had the most to gain from blind increases). Eventually they showed up and fixed it, which started the blind escalations again. But in all fairness, if it hadn't been 4 am, I would have thought this was a great structure. There was play at every stage of the tournament.
So that's finally a win in one of the majors; I have been feeling like Phil Mickelson for a long time. I passed Bill in buyins/tournament on the agreement too! :)
